Solvent extraction and ion exchange resin methods are both purification techniques, which have been industrially used since about 1945. In this paper, the investigations on both techniques are carried out from the viewpoint of high purification of metal ions. After considering the principle and mechanism of both techniques, production of high purity titanium solution by solvent extraction and production of high purity rare earths by ion exchange resin are introduced as an example.
