In recent years, forests have very important roles from the viewpoint of the global warming and biodiversity. However, poorly-managed forests are increasing with decay of forest industry and decrease in forest managers. Therefore, an efficient management of forest is required. As the one of the index to evaluate forest condition, the light environment on forest floor is considered. The light environment on forest floor means the distribution of photosythetically active radiation that reaches to forest floor. Forest Light Environmental Simulator (FLiES), a kind of radiative transfer model, is useful to estimate the light environment on forest floor. To execute FLiES, some parameters of forest structure are required. 3D portable laser scanner has been often used to estimate forest structure. This study developed the method to estimate the light environment on forest floor using 3D portable laser scanner data and radiative transfer model. As the result, although it was difficult to estimate the absolute light intensity on forest floor, relative light intensity on forest floor could be estimated with a high degree of accuracy. This study was able to indicate that the proposed method had potential to estimate the light condition on forest floor.
