Glycopeptide was isolated from tryptic digest of the liver of rats fed with hepatic carcinogen, 3'-methyl-4-dimethylaminoazobenzene (3'-methyl-DAB), for 3-35 weeks. Analyses were carried out by the measurements of hexose, sialic acid and hexosamine as well as cellulose acetate strip electrophoresis, followed by staining with alcian blue.
The results have been discussed and summarized as follows.
1. The hexose, sialic acid and hexosamine contents all rose in the first 5-7 weeks of feeding with 3'-methyl-DAB, falling once to a low level and rose again after 24 weeks of feeding with hepatic carcinogen, especially in the cancer tissue during 24-35 weeks.
2. The relative proportion of the glycopeptide fraction on cellulose acetate strip electrophoresis also showed similar alterations with weeks of feeding with azo dye as observed before.
