Bovine fetal serum was investigated by cellulose acetate electrophoresis, immunoelectrophoresis, immunodiffusion and single radial immunodiffusion.
A continuous increase of the total serum proteins was observed, it reached 4.2g/dl at birth.
Significant changes of serum proteins were observed, especially α-glob, by cellulose acetate electrophoresis in the course of gestation age.
Twelve precipitation lines were always observed in the fetal serum by immunoelectrophoresis, seven of 12 lines were identified.
Serum transferrin and α2-macroglobulin were also studied.
IgG was detected from 6 (16%) of 37 fetal sera. IgG1 was the predominant immunoglobulin in the sera of IgG detected samples.
