Abstract
This paper deals with a simulation system of highway traffic, and proposes an autonomous decentralized model-based approach. First, the dynamics of road traffic is formally described by introducing three kinds of models: a driver model, a vehicle model and a road model. The vehicle model is to specify the physical behaviors of cars, while the driver model is used to determine the decision makings of drivers. The road model corresponds to an environment of both drivers and cars, and has geometrical data of road. Then, a prototype of a simulator in the case that only one car with a driver is considered. Though some simulations using the prototype, the possibility of the proposed model is confirmed.
