Abstract
In rough set analysis, lower approximations have been utilized more frequently than upper approximations. In this paper, we shall show a family of upper approximations can retain more information than that of lower approximations. We define a reduct and a measure of specificity based on upper approximations. The usefulness and properties of these concept are discussed.
