Statistical Analysis of Lightning Observation Data

Abstract

Lightning causes damage of our infrastructures, such as power grids and communication systems. In order to protect such damage, knowledge on characteristics of lightning is essentially important. Therefore observation data of LLS （Lightning Location System）, which measures electro-magnetic waves propagated from lightning discharges, are statistically analyzed. In this report, distribution of inter-stroke intervals （ISIs）, multiplicity of flashes, and their seasonal variations are evaluated.
