An ecological study was made on Osmunda lancea var. latipinnula (O.i.), O. lancea (O.l.) and O. japonica (O.j.) from a large community along a rivulet (ca. 2 km in distance, 3〜8m in width, 2〜6m in depth and ca. 100m in alt.)which runs between Sandomaki and Nakamura at Yoshiwara City, Shizuoka Prefecture at the southern foot of Mt. Fuji. The writer carried out the studies on about 1000 stocks of O.i. which grow along the rivulet, and the following features were studied : the habitat segregation of closely related species, the observation of budding, the comparison of the growth process of the fertile fronds and sterile fronds in a stock, the determination of the mature period and the spore's germinating ability from March to June in 1963. The composition of the community (as regards these three ferns only) both in the slope and on the bed along the rivulet was investigated by the quadrat method using 20 quadrats of 1m×3m on the slope and of 1m×1m on the bed. It is reaffirmed as shown in Tables 1 and 2 that O.j. is situated mainly between the area of O.l. and O.i., and the location of these three species indicate the so-called "habitat segregation" along the rivulet.
