Investigation of Ni/MAl₂O₄ (M=Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) for Catalytic NH₃ decomposition

Ammonia can be catalytically decomposed into N₂ and H₂ as follows; 2NH₃ -> N₂ + 3H₂ ΔH^o = +46 kJ mol^-1. However, associative desorption step of N atoms is known as the rate-limiting step in this catalysis, and these adsorbed N atoms work to block active sites at low temperature. This step seems to be influenced by the catalyst basicity. Therefore, this study has introduced the MAl₂O₄ supports that have different basicity and investigated on how basicity of support affects the ammonia decomposition reaction and the associative desorption step of N atoms.
