The grinding performance and service life of electrodeposited diamond grinding wheels are affected by many factors. In this report, the effects of the ratio of electrodeposited depth (ED) to mean diamond grain size (GS) are discussed. The ratio at which the wheel shows optimum performance and life is determind when the ratio ED/GS is defind as
ED/GS=RD×TD/GS×100
where RD=rate of electrodeposition
TD=deposition time
In the expeperiment 53-ED-1 synthetic diamond made by Tomei Diamond Co. was used and grain size distribution was from 88μm to 105μm. The wheel body was of a cup shapes, and the electrolyte was a Watt's bath. Grinding experiment showed that the optimum ratio lies between 70 and 80 per cent.
