Abstract
The authors have proposed a method to reduce the energy consumption in the residential houses by providing household members with the information about the energy consumption in their own houses. An on-line interactive "energy consumption information system" that displays the power consumption and city gas consumption of whole house, room temperature. and the power consumption of each electric appliance was constructed and was installed in 10 residential houses. As a result, the energy-saving consciousness was raised and the energy demands were reduced by energy-saving activities of the household members. This paper describes especially the effectiveness of the system to the space heating demands.
