A heat balance calculation model of semi-transparent photovoltaic (STPV) was constructed and incorporated into a building energy simulation model. Case study was carried out on a typical 4-person household residential building in Osaka, with two types of double glass STPV panels (20% and 50% solar transmission rate) located on the south-facing roof of the living zone. Reduction in heating energy was achieved but increment in cooling energy was observed, resulting in a net increase in total air conditioning energy consumption for both STPV panels. Daylighting energy saving was subtle in the current simulation condition the existing south glazing satisfied most of the illuminance demand.
