Abstract
In this study, field measurements have been carried out in an office building to understand the influence of sustainable design on energy consumption and thermal environment. The main sustainable design strategies include: firstly, this building is constructed in wood with the purpose to reduce CO_2 generation. Secondly, the exterior walls and roofs are well insulated in order to reduce energy consumption by the heating process while simultaneously provide comfortable thermal indoor environment in winter. Thirdly, sun-shading construction plays an important role to reduce the energy consumption for the cooling process in summer. The results show that temperature in the office building stayed constant around 20〜25℃ throughout a whole year, while energy consumption was significantly less than conventional office buildings.
