Abstract
A 5-year-old, castrated male, miniature dachshund, who had been fed a pet shop-made dry dog food presented with severe scales at the perioral area, erosion and ulcer on the footpads, erosion at the tip of the prepuce and around the anus. No systemic symptoms were found and blood tests did not show abnormalities. Histopathological findings revealed parakeratosis at both the epidermis and follicular epithelium and inflammation in the superficial dermis. The dog was suspected to have Generic dog food dermatosis and treated with the Sensitivity Control Light (Cod & Rice), (ROYAL CANIN Japon, Tokyo), which have appropriate minerals with enhancement for zinc and essential fatty acid. The skin lesions were dramatically improved in one week, and completely ameliorated in 4 weeks. Ingredients analysis of the food was implemented later, and zinc and copper levels were less than the standard in the AAFCO Adult Maintenance Minimum.
