Although indoor environmental simulation, such as Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD), has been rapidly developed, it is still difficult to be utilized during design process. The complexity and low efficiency of data input and output for CFD are thought to be the obstacle of using CFD to aid building environmental design. Thus, many engineers are trying to cross that barrier by using Building Information Modeling (BIM), a process of generating and managing building data during its lifecycle. In this paper, the state-of-the-art researches of BIM and simulation modeling are reviewed, and the status quo of coupling BIM and CFD in USA and Japan is reported.
