This paper presents the effect of a task-ambient lighting system on the energy efficiency and quality of office lighting. Measurement results are as follows; 1) Compared with general direct lighting a combination of task lighting and low ambient lighting can effectively reduce electricity consumption. 2) Relationships between switch-on rate of task lightings and horizontal/vertical illuminance around work areas should be further examined. 3) There are no significant differences on estimated brightness values between direct lighting and task-ambient lighting, while office worker satisfaction is not the same between those systems.
