In this paper, the ventilation methods are investigated to reduce nonsmoker's exposure to environmental tobacco smoke. The smoking area in restaurants, where smokers and nonsmokers stay at the same table, was modeled to simulate distribution of particulate materials concentration by CFD simulation. The CFD results show that displacement ventilation system can make indoor air quality much better than mixing ventilation system but the concentration is not kept in allowable range. On the other hand, the combined system with local ventilation and displacement ones is expected to be a solution to realize good indoor air quality.
