Our country depends on Malaya for the supply of iron are amounting to 30% of total demand, indeed, Malaya holds an important position in iron are supply.
Dungun iron mine, an enterprise of Nihon-Kôgyô Kaisya, which lies 21 miles up the Dungun River, Trengganu, Malaya, has 5 mining licences covered 1120 acers. Geology of this region is made up of Mesozoic sediments, consisting of sandstone, quartzite and shale intruded by granite, and the formes are metamorphosed by the latter. There are 2 types of are deposits in this mine, one contact deposit, and the other secondary diluvial deposit. The are of these deposits is mixture of 65 to 70% hematite and 25 to 30% magnetite.
At present, a part of the secondary diluvial deposit is only mined by open pit with 20 ft. benches. Members of the mining employees are 1010 in total, and of these 60 are Japanese officers and 950 are coolies.
