It is believed that gold occurs ordinarily in the form of free state in the gangue or in sulphide minerals, but there are some indications that gold occurs in solid solution. In our experience, irrespective of these occurrences, the extraction of gold by flotation has perhaps some relation to the floatability of sulphide mineral with which gold is associated. To confirm this, a series of experiments were conducted at the presence of several sulphide minerals. It was ascertained that the floatability of gold was affected with a considerable amount by the associated sulphide mineral, and moreover by the nature of the mineral. Chalcopyrite, for example, is most effective, and galena and pyrite come next.
