Ponting out the faults of usual tension test of wire ropes, we advocated “60% repeated load tension test of wire ropes”, which explains their mechanical characteristics, such as permanent set, modulus of elasticity at the beginning and at the end of period of actual service.
Summarizing the values obtained by these tests and by the measurement of vertical ropes in mine shafts, and the calculated values from the theoretical formula induced by us, we determined the standard value of tensile modulus of elasticity of every kinds of wire ropes.
