In the post-war-time, the scrapers, so primitive, began to be adopted to increase the filling speed in Cut and Fill stopes. After many experiments and employments, they were aplied in actual operations in 1949 and resulted in the remarkable progress of effecency in haulage, required by the development of Sub-Level stoping method with the long and semi-long holes.
They are three main factors on the design of scrapers ;- self-weight, digging angle and weight balance. Among then, self-weight seem to be most influential to treat such the blocken are in bigger size as the one at the Kamioka Mine.
They are use in the various waies and now occupy are little less than 50% of the total output. Thus they have brought many advantages in mining engineering on the problems of the increase of haulage effecency, the lowering of haulage cost, the concentration of stopes and prevention of accident.
