The hydrolysis of metal chlorides in chlorine water are followed by means of pH and extinction (ε) measurments. On the titration cnrves we can point out the beginning of hydrolysis and of coagulation becanse of increase and decrease of ε. With varying concentration σ of metals, the pH values of hydrolysis determined by the above mentioned method are plotted against log σ
Moreover, when we represent the pH as a function of log ε at aconstant σ, curves consisting of straight-lines segments are obtained. As a resnlt of these figures, we conclude the prodncts of hydrolysis of FeCl3 and CuCl2 are to be Fe (OH) 3 and Cu2 (OH) 3 Cl, respeetively.
