This paper deals theoretically with the plastic flow of the ground around an opening made in it, which was formerly investigated by Fenner. The authors have obtained several results, some of them differ from the Fenner's, and some have never been treated by him. On the basis of these studies, they have discussed on the supports suitable to the openings in plastic ground, and suggested a theory of yielding supports.
