The theoretical and experimental researches on the vibration of winding ropes in vertical shafts have hitherto been carried out by many scholars in several countries.
In these papers, considering the mistakes found in former researches, we mostly paid attention to the theoretical by taking into account not only the inertia and the weight of the ropebut also its internal friction. Furthermore, we analysed the vibration of the rope when accelerated, loaded or braked in ordinary time or in emergency.
The analytical results are compared with some experimental data measured in a shaft. The comparison shows that our method of analyses is practical in most cases.
We have used these results in discussing orderly decrease of safety factor of the winding, ropes in proportion as the rope lengthen.
In this first report of ours, we offer the results of our reseach on the vibration of winding rope in the standard shaft when drived in an ordinary way.
