Purposes of the present studies are to investigate the floatability of sulphide minerals in acidified solutions and the critical pH values of sulphide minerals. The measurements of the floatability of galena and covellite using ethylxanthic acid as collector and the experiments of the formation reactions of lead and copper compounds with ethylxanthic acids were carried out. Experimental results showed that the closed relation was found between the floatability of minerals and the formation constants of metal chelate compounds in acidified solutions. And, the influences of the concentration variations and the species of xanthic acids to the critical pH values were investigated. It was found that the pKa values of dissociation of xanthic acids have a linear relation to the critical pH values. And it was pointed out that closed relation between the critical pH values of galena and the formation constants of lead compounds of xanthic acids, Furthermore, it was cleared up that the sequence of additions of xanthic acids as collector and alkalies as depressant showed the great differences of their effectiveness.
