The ternary system Fe2As-FeS-Cu2S was studied by means of thermal analysis and microscopic examination to clarify the equilibrium conditions between speiss and copper matte in lead smelting. Results obtained are as follows:
1. The system Fe2As-Cu2S constitutes a pseudo-binary system, and its equilibrium diagram is shown in Fig. 1.
2. The equilibrium diagram of the system Fe2As-FeS-Cu2S was determined as shown in Fig. 11. There are two invariant reactions in this system:
Lo1=Lo2+Cu2S+FeS at 980°C and Le4=Fe2As+FeS+Cu2S at 865°C.
3. From the feature of the miscibility gap in this system shown in Figs. 2 and 11, a considerable mutual solubility is presumed between speiss and copper matte.
