It is considered that the high temperature conditions underground at Toyoha Mine are mainly attributable to the hot springs which are contained in mother rocks.
In order to improve this conditions, investigations were conducted for the origine and route of hot springs and also experimental studies were made on the induction of heat from the rocks.
Changes of rock temperature caused by age effect were measured and the relation between volume and temperature of ventilating air was studied. In the same time, number of cooling plants and its site of installation were discussed in connection with underground developmentplanning.
In short, three remedies were taken, namely, cooling by ventilation, coolingmethods of water, and adequate measures for hot springs. These remedies will ensure the future increased production in this mine.
