At Sazare Mill, copper, zinc and pyrite concentrates are produced by bulk differential flotation, aftereliminating 30 pct weight waste by means of both hand picking and heavy media separation.
Now, a fairly amount of massive sulfides are contained in the crude ore.If they are directly sent to the differential flotation circuit by making use of them for grinding media, it is expected that the load of the primary grinding and bulk flotation will be lightened and that the separation results of the differential flotation will be improved.
With such expectation, the author tried 10 months operational test using 8'×3' conical mill. From the observation of this test, it is confirmed that the sulfide ore pebbles can be used simply instead of conventional balls, but the expected results are not always obtained about the differential flotation, and accordingly the autogenous grinding cannot be adopted into the following daily operation.
