An electric detonator is often used for the electric blasting in the mining or in the civil working, but, from the view point of its explosive force, it also is used as the current limiting fuse for the cut-off of the electric circuit in these days. In many cases, the analysis of detonator characteristics has been performed by an experimental method only, but because the detonator is used for many purposes, therefore, the theoretical design of the detonator is also necessary for the analysis.
The purpose of this study exists in the establishment of the theoretical design for the electric detonator. From the view point, the authors have developed the approximate solution of a nonlinear partial differiential equation in which they takes into consideration of the effect of the self reacting heat.
When the method is adopted, various characteristics (ignition time, explosion time and minimum ignition energy, etc) are obtained for a certain current of the detonator, if physical and chemical constants for detonator materials are known. Besides, it is possible to deduce effects in variation of constants to the characteristics described above.
From the result, the data for the design of the electric detonator are obtained and the theoretical design of the detonator becomes possible at the same time.
