The present report deals with the properties of wire ropes due to longitudinal impact as the basic reseach for the safety factor of wire ropes.
After measuring the velocities of longitudinal wave propagation in wire ropes, we carry out some theoretical analysis of the dynamic model of wire ropes.
Conclusions thus obtained are summarized as follows.
(1) The velocities of wave front propagation in 6×7 C/L, 6×19 O/O and 6×24 G/L are 4, 550, 4, 000 and 4, 000m/s respectively. In wire, the velocity is 5, 200m/s.
(2) The maximum value of the dynamic modulus is 1.6 times as much as the value of the static modulus.
(3) The properties of wire ropes can be explained with Zener model (viscoelastic model) more sufficiently than with Voigt model.
