Uniform disk-like γ-ScOOH particles of an average size of 6.1 μm with a relative standard deviation of O.15 were prepared by aging at 100±0.5°C for 24h a 2.0 × 10-3 mol dm-3 scandium (III) nitrate solution at an initial pH, of 4. 54. Uniformity of the particles greatly depended on the composition of the starting solutions. Monodispersed elliptical plate particles of γ-ScOOH were also produced by the addition of a very small amount of sulfate ions. These particles grew through a polynuclear layers mechanism.
