Abstract
Butyl hydroxy anisole (BHA) was irradiated in benzene using a low voltage mercury lamp (10W) for 400hr, affording 3, 3′-di-tert-butyl-2, 2′-di-hydroxy-5, 5′-di-methoxy diphenyl (A), 2′, 3-di-tert-butyl-2-hydroxy-4′, 5-di-methoxy diphenyl ether (B), 3-tert-butyl-2-hydroxy-5-methoxy-diphenyl (C), 9-tert-butyl-7-methoxy-10-oxo benzo (3·4·a) bicyclo (3·1·3) nonane-3-en (D). The structures of these compounds were identified by IR, NMR, and mass spectra.
