Human communication is the reciprocal activity of presuming interlocutor’s “mind” and predicting/manipulating his/her behavior in terms of “theory of mind”. We investigate what makes us believe in robots’ mind—namely, (1) spatio-temporal contingency patterns found in infant-caregiver interaction as the clue for mind detection and (2) modeling each other’s action as the mechanism for empathetic understanding of other’s mind.
