We discuss on the meaning of mind for a robot. Even if a robot can mimic human behavior well, it is just a mimicking robot, and cannot be said to have mind. In order to implement “mind” in a robot, we must know the function of mind and implement that function in a robot. The actual implementation of mind in a robot may differ in many ways from that in humans, and there is no inevitability for a robot’s mind to share various implementation features with that of humans. Hence the evaluation should be based NOT on how similar the surface features of the implementation are, but how well the robot’s mind functions in a society of robots.
