The construction of an ultrasonic gas flowmeter is difficult because the attenuation of ultrasonic waves and the effects of acoustic noises are considerably higher for a gas than for a liquid. The sound field of the proposed meter is stabilized by FM ultrasonic wave; however, the receiver eliminates the FM components. Therefore, the flow rate can be measured using a single frequeney signal. The flowmeter investigated in the present study yields near satisfactory performance.
