We reported three patients with primary malignant melanomas on the scalp and eyebrow area which developed regional metastases. Histologic examination of three primary lesions revealed lentigo maligna melanoma (LMM) . In the past, we treated 13 patients with LMM on the cheek and lip by local wide excision without lymphadenectomy. However, no patient had local recurrences or metastases. Taken together, these results suggest that the rate of metastasis of LMM of the terminal hair area is higher than that of the cheek and lip.
Regional metastatic lesions in one patient with LMM of the scalp were treated by local injection of interferon beta (Feron), resulted complete response. She is alive for 20 months after the operation of primary lesion.
