Abstract

Cefroxadine (CXD, Oraspor®capsule), a cephalosporin derivative antibiotic was used in the various moderate and above skin infections and pustular acne, and its clinical efficacy and antibacterial potency against isolates from the foci were examined.
Twenty four patients (15 males and 9 females between 13 and 68 years of age) were subjected to the trials and their diagnostic breakdown showed, 11 cases of multiple folliculitis, 1 case of furuncle, 2 cases of furunculosis, 1 case of carbuncle, 1 case of phlegmon, 3 cases of pustular acne, and 5 cases of secondary-infected trauma.
The daily dosage of 1000mg was divided into 2 fractions and was taken after breakfast and after supper.
Its efficacy was evaluated in the 24 cases and was markedly effective in 7 cases, moderately effective in 11 cases, slightly effective in 5 cases, and in-effective in 1 case, with the effective rate being 75%.
The clinical isolates from the foci were mostly S. epidermidis and S. aureus, and the antibacterial potency of cefroxadine against these bacteria was somewhat superior to that of cefalexin. Side effects i. e., elevation of GOT and GPT values were recognized in 1 case.
