This paper reports on an ongoing project of developing a Tongan (Polynesian) child language corpus, documenting the interaction between three young children and their grandmother. We discuss the project’s potential contributions, especially the value of adding the data from understudied languages to CHILDES, as well as some methodological challenges that arise when documenting adult-child interaction in a non-WEIRD language.
