SU(3) chiral linear sigma model for positive and negative parity baryons

A chirally symmetric SU(3) linear sigma model for positive and negative parity baryons is discussed. By considering baryon transformation properties, there are two types of BBM coupling terms. We demonstrate that positive and negative parity baryon octet masses are reasonably well explained by incorporating these trace and determinant type interactions as well as explicit breaking term.
