The influence of environmental factors such as SS (Suspended Solid) and TOC (Total Organic Carbon) on the growth of the bryozoan Bugula neritina was examined by immersing juvenile colonies attached on glass slides in the sea. According to the relationship between the water temperature and the daily growth rate, the rates obtained in this experiment were converted into those at 20°C. Although there was no clear relationship between the converted growth rate (r′) and TOC, there was the linear relationship (r′=-0.024SS+0.422) between the rate and SS.
