Abstract
In order to train project managers effectively, it is essential to provide basic knowledge of a project management method such as PMBOK as well as practical experience in a real project environment. However, project managers learn project management knowledge and expertise mostly from "trial and error", it is difficult for companies to assign an unskilled junior project manager to a real project just for the training purpose. In addition, especially in the current IT systems development condition where project duration of three to six months is quite common, a single serious problem in a short-term project is likely to impact on project failure directly caused by delay of the delivery time or cost overrun. This paper presents an approach to a practical project managers training programs for junior project managers in an actual project environment. In the program, a junior project manager uses a risk checklist, which aims to reduce potential project failure, and takes charge of project management under a senior project manager's guidance.
