Abstract
Powder X-ray diffraction patterns of compressed In-Sn, In-Ge, and Bi-Sn mixtures were recorded. At ambient, In-Sn is an alloy with a hexagonal structure. It then transforms to a mix hexagonal and orthorhombic structures. For Bi-Sn, the elements do not mix at ambient conditions. At 2.58 GPa, the system transforms to a solid solution with an orthorhombic structure but dissociates back to the elemental phases above 10 GPa. In the In-Ge system, no alloy formation is observed.
