A Study on Production Conditions and Fluidity of Milk of Lime (Calcium Hydroxide-Water Slurry)

Abstract

Milk of lime which is the mixture of water and slaked lime (Ca(OH)₂) with good fluidity and unsuitable fluidity was sampled from the practical production process of Tokuyama Corporation. The microscopic observations showed that the coagulation of slaked lime particles might be caused by an increase in the viscosity of milk of lime. In order to study the rheological properties of the milk of lime samples were prepared with Ohita limestone at various temperatures and the time change of particle coagulation was investigated through the chemical analysis and the scanning electron microscope observations. It was found that the surface characteristics of quick lime may be related to the reactivity with water, and also to the viscosity of the obtained milk of lime.
