Improvement of proton conductivity of solid electrolyte films needs to form three-dimensional proton conduction routes by controlling the pore size and the pore structure between particles in particle films. A particle assemble method using electrophoretic deposition technique is useful for speedy and mass production assembly. In the electrophoretic deposition method, structure of particle array can be controlled by the electric field.
As a result, the proton conductivity of the film showed a higher value for the regularly-arranged particle film and it is increased with a decrease in particle diameter. The proton conductivity of the film with the particles of diameter 50nm had the highest value. The particle film with the well-controlled structure may enable the fuel cell to be operated in the middle temperature range.

Milk of lime which is the mixture of water and slaked lime (Ca(OH)2) with good fluidity and unsuitable fluidity was sampled from the practical production process of Tokuyama Corporation. The microscopic observations showed that the coagulation of slaked lime particles might be caused by an increase in the viscosity of milk of lime. In order to study the rheological properties of the milk of lime samples were prepared with Ohita limestone at various temperatures and the time change of particle coagulation was investigated through the chemical analysis and the scanning electron microscope observations. It was found that the surface characteristics of quick lime may be related to the reactivity with water, and also to the viscosity of the obtained milk of lime.

The transition phenomenon, which is a feature of the filtration properties of non-woven fabric filter, is the change in filtration mode during filtration from the first stage of deep bed filtration to the second stage of surface blocking filtration or the cake filtration. In this study the effect of filter structure in depth direction on the transition phenomenon was studied with the filters prepared by layering three types of polypropylene non-woven fabric filters and binary mixture suspension of uniform PMMA particles. The change in the apparent pore size distribution of prepared filters was measured by the differential flow method. In the case of filters stacked with the same type of filters the change in the filtration performance by the stacking could be explained by the change in the surface blocking filtration condition in the first stage filtration period and it could be roughly predicted from the change in the apparent pore size distribution. But in the case of the filters stacked with different types of filters the change in the filtration performance did not show clear trends with the stacking condition and could not be explained from the change in the apparent pore size distribution.
