For the preparation of uniform platinum-coated alumina powder, two step coating method was investigated. Since the wettability and adhesive behavior of platinum on alumina is low for the direct coating on alumina, palladium layer formed on alumina powder before platinum coating in aqueous suspension with hydrazine. Palladium pre-coated alumina particles were easily able to form uniform platinum coating layer in aqueous suspension with CMC. The thickness of coated platinum layer on alumina powder was able to be controlled by the amount of added platinum salt in this liquid process. Furthermore, this two step coating method was able to be applied uniform platinum coating on other two kinds of alumina core powder with different primary particles.
