Abstract
We attempted to use the Ba0.79Al10.9O17.14 as a host material for a new phosphor. Doping of Eu2+ was achieved by annealing the Eu2O3-containing materials under 97% Ar - 3% H2 reductive atmosphere. The phosphors of (Ba1-xEux)0.79Al10.9O17.14 were synthesized with the x-values ranging from 0.05 to 0.16 to determine the Eu2+ ion concentration for highest photoluminescence (PL) intensity. The phosphors emitted the blight blue-green-color, in which the broad emission spectrum was observed in the wave range of 450~550 nm when excited by ultraviolet light at around 329 nm. One of the phosphors with x=0.1 showed the highest PL intensity. TEM images of the specimens with x-values of 0 and 0.12 were observed and the composition of each grain was measured by EDS. The results showed that the hexagonal structure has an antiphase-domain boundaries along the [100] direction and the PL intensity is closely related to crystal structure.
