In order to achieve energy saving in a suspension preheater consisting of multiple stages of cyclones in a dry cement burning process, the performance of a cyclone with an inlet guide vane has been studied.
Lower pressure loss as well as higher collection efficiency have been attained simultaneously by means of a suitable guide vane with top clearance provided in a small scale cyclone by the use of ambient temperature air. Furthermore, similar performance has been confirmed in a large scale cyclone by use of 250°C air.
Based on these test results, inlet guide vanes have been applied to the cyclones for several units of existing suspension preheaters in cement industries. The pressure loss reduction rate in the total cement burning system is about 12% in one typical installation.
