Abstract
In order to examine the yield properties of a powder bed, the strain in the direction of the normal stress which acts on the powder bed in a shear process, Δn, was measured precisely by a direct shear tester with parallel plates. The powder yield locus and consolidation yield locus could be obtained by using the proper yield criterian Δn. It is shown that yield locus approaches the critical state line as the value of Δn increases.
