The changes in CWM properties due to high speed agitation were investigated through batch agitation tests using a laboratory-scale agitator. It was found that it is possible to decrease the apparent viscosity of CWM and improve the statical stability by agitation. The decrease in apparent viscosity was mainly caused by intensive dispersion of surfactant. The improvement of statical stability was mainly attributable to the increase in structural viscosity caused by clay minerals liberated from the coal surface during agitation.
