Abstract

For over half a century, Hollywood has looked abroad for innovative stories in order to remake them in its own image. Now having turned its eye to Asia, the machine is restricting the flow of valuable cultural exports from the region and implicitly promoting a move toward cultural homogeneity through cinema. This report seeks to provide an account of the current economic environment surrounding international film remakes, challenges faced by Asian filmmakers and the implications thereof.
